There’s 2 types of golf travel cases you can buy, hard travel cases or soft cases. Which one do you buy?

A hard golf travel case is a travel case designed for the ultimate in protection for your golf clubs. It is, obviously, manufactured of a hard substance such as a plastic like molded polyethylene, and this is usually impact resistant. You’d be surprised at how roughly baggage like golf clubs can be handled in airline luggage handling procedures.

If, for example, they get thrown onto a luggage trolley with a sharp edge beneath them they need to be able to withstand the impact.

Some manufacturers claim, we believe, that their hard golf travel bags are so strong that they could actually fall out of the plane and still be intact after hitting the ground. We’re not sure we want to test that.

Soft golf travel cases are exactly that, soft. They are made from a soft material and are not resistant to puncture. However a soft case can be lighter than a hard travel case. It is still possible to get light hard golf travel cases, but they are usually compact cases that are much smaller and take much less in the way of clubs.

Soft golf travel bags will often have a carry strap whereas hard travel cases should have a good set of wheels, and when you’re trying to move all that luggage a set of wheels is extremely useful.

There are some downsides to hard travel cases. When you get home they are a nuisance to store as they don’t fold up!

What’s the big difference between a hard golf travel case and a soft case? Cost.A soft travel case should be quite a bit cheaper than a hard case, so if your need for protection for your golf clubs isn’t great, then use a soft travel case. It’s cheaper and will do the job where, for example, you’re just taking your golf clubs with you in the car.

Whatever your needs for protecting your golf clubs when you travel, you should always use a good golf travel case. Your clubs are too important to arrive damaged!

And remember if you’re travelling on a budget why not check out some cheap accommodation?

There are also collapsible golf travel bags. Are they any good?

We have already mentioned one of the problems with hard golf travel bags. They are a great travel bag, but they are a …….. to store when you get home. Too big and too hard, they can’t be folded up and they seem to get in the way of everything.

Is there a compromise? A travel bag that protects your golf clubs as well as a hard case but doesn’t have the problem with storing the case?

There has been a solution to this problem which has been manufactured in the past called the Golf Telebag, a telescoping golf travel bag that is designed to allow it to collapse down from it’s full size to around half it’s length for storage.

We would love to learn more about the Golf Telebag but unfortunately we cannot access their website. This is either because it’s no longer available, or for some other techy internet reason.

If someone knows what is happening with the golf telebag we’d be interested to know, however to date we can’t tell you much more about it because their website is inaccessible.

Shame as it would be worth considering as a golf travel case. It probably has it’s problems as most compromises do, but it would certainly be worth a look.
